Why is ACOT's cost far less than other colleges?

American College of Technology mission is to deliver, career oriented, technical training and education to anybody, anywhere at a fair cost. We believe that affordable education should be available to everyone, at any time. Traditional colleges incur high administrative and organizational costs to support their infra-structure; campuses, theaters, and maintenance, such expenses are passed to the online student. At ACOT, we have eliminated most of the costs associated with traditional colleges and we  believe in passing these significant savings on to our students.

Is my education as valuable as on-campus education?

ACOT programs are developed as a result of the founder's and staffs' teaching experience on college campuses and technical expertise. As a matter of fact, the online education delivered by ACOT exceeds the on-campus education at other colleges. ACOT provides daily interactive online classes, where students can hear the instructor and watch live presentations. In addition, ACOT provides students with multi-media CDs that contain the study material and lectures. All live lectures are recorded so students can review the lectures as many times as needed, a feature not available in traditional schools. In addition our instructors are also available outside scheduled lectures to answer any questions students may have.

How does it work?

In order to deliver a rich learning experience to our students, ACOT adopted a comprehensive delivery system which consists of multiple components:

    • Audio Class
There are 3 online lectures a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Each lecture is 3 hours in length. To accommodate working individuals, Lectures are usually conducted in the evening, except for Saturdays.

    • ACOT E-Learn
The ACOT-eLearn environment is set up for students, using their user name and password, to logon and utilize all the components of the classroom, such as; participate in the audio lecture, review the study materials, send and receive messages, do their assignments, discuss study materials with their fellow students, take the online tests and communicate with their teachers.
    • Online Tests
Every week you have an online test which covers the material taught in that week. Each test is approximately one hour. You can take the test at anytime between Friday and Sunday at midnight. Once you submit the answers your score is displayed on the screen, and a copy is sent to your instructor.

    • Multimedia CDs
You will be mailed a multi-media CD for every course. The CD consists of the materials covered during the course.
    • Recorded Lectures
All live lectures are recorded and posted on ACOT website, students can replay the lecture at any time and as many time as they wish.

What if I can not attend the lecture at specific time?
All online lectures are recorded and posted on our site, so you can listen and watch the presentation at any other time and as many times as you wish.

How many hours do I need to study?

That varies, however, each online lecture is equal to two hours of lab work at home. Our students have been reporting an average 12 -20 hours of weekly study. That is including the online lectures.

Would I be able to get employment after I graduate?

ACOT does not guarantee employment for graduates. However, the shortage in information specialists has been enabling graduates to get employment almost immediately upon graduation. Some students have been getting jobs in the Information Technology field before graduation from technical colleges. In addition ACOT will provide you with online help accessing placement resources, and head-hunters agencies.

What are my chances of getting a job after graduation?
According to Information Technology Association of America - ITAA:

"US companies are experiencing a severe shortage of Information Technology (IT) workers. According to a  released ITAA study, the number of unfilled IT positions at US companies is projected to be approximately 900,000 over the next 12 months."

What is my expected salary upon graduation?

Not usually, the average annual salary for Computer Programmers is around $40,000. After two years of working experience the salary may go up to $50,000 or $60,000. You can check average pay in various states at www.salary.com
Is this a good investment? Is it worth borrowing the money?
We think so. let's do the math; let's assume you will make on average $40,000 upon graduation. Assuming you will have no salary increase, which is usually not the case, you will make $800,000 over the next 20 years. So you invest less than $8,000 and you will get back $800,000 over the next 20 years. We think there are not many opportunities in the market which will give you that kind of return.

My math skills are not very good, can I still be a programmer?
Many people tend to think that to be a programmer you have to be a math expert. This is a myth. Business application programming does not have much math requirements. Average math skills are enough to learn programming.

What are the requirements for admission?
    Admission requirements are:
    • High school diploma or GED or equivalent.

    • Application with $25 application fee.

Do you offer Financial Aid?

ACOT does not offer Financial Aid at this time. We do offer two methods of payment.
    1) Full Payment
    2) or pay as you go ($1320 per 10 week course.)

Would I qualify for an educational loan?

Obtaining a loan from a bank is the student's responsibility. However, students who make at least $15,000 a year and have a fair credit rating usually qualify for a loan.

I have bad credit, can I still get a loan?

Many people don't have excellent credit. If that is the case, you will need a co-signer.

Are there any tax benefits for going to ACOT?
